Madeira is situated 2 hours south west of Lisbon in the Atlantic Ocean and about 1 hour north of the Canary Islands. The island has a sub-tropical climate and has big links to the British, which can still be seen by the local production of fine wines, both fortified and normal red wines, which are still well renowned across the world.
The topography of the island is very interesting, with no true real sand beaches, lots of mountains and rocky terrain, lush forests and verdant valleys in the middle of the island with very steep climbs up from the coastal areas, even compared to Tenerife.
The selected resort venue we feature, is set inside the marvellous Palheiro Gardens, which are a big tourist attraction, Casa Velha do Palheiro. The views from the golf course and hotel here are second to none in Europe, set on such high land, above Funchal, the views are nothing short of spectacular, especially from Palheiro clubhouse.
Madeira is a dream destination for the golfer who is seeking a real true escape, it is generally a quiet and secluded place to take a holiday.
British Airways offer a service to Funchal from London Gatwick if you prefer a scheduled option. Whilst we highly recommend the airlines of Easyjet and Jet2.com, who offer golfers a better all-round service, particularly when it comes to booking golf club carriage & extra leg room seats.
There are an array of flights year round now to Funchal from most UK main and provincial airports, during our winter and summer months. Thomas Cook and Thomson also offer flight routes, but their golf club carriage booking system is frustrating compared to other airlines mentioned!
