Sri Lanka lies to the south of India, a big impressive island, with a fantastic history and culture, with its ancient Buddhist Citadels and Temples and a fascinating topography, to match its unique and impressive history.
The resort that we feature – Hambantota is in the lovely south part of the island, on the Indian Ocean, the eastern coastline is on the Bay of Bengal, which is equally impressive and spectacular.
The capital Colombo is mid-west coast and about 4 hours transfer from our Shangri-La Resort at Hambantota, but there is a local airport, which is called Mattala, which has direct flights from Colombo and Dubai. Mattala is only 20 minute’s transfer from the resort.
The island of Sri Lanka is amazing, with a wide variety of landscapes, which include highlands, rain forest and arid desert like plains, it is India in miniature – a superb landscape, which has to be explored. There are two beautiful national parks one can drive to, within one hour from our resort. We would also recommend a visit to the ancient capital Anuradhapura, which has ruins still from 2,00 years ago. Whilst the 5th century ancient Buddhist Citadel at Sigiriya is one of the wonders of the world.
The golf and beach resort that we sell is the best golf venue in Sri Lanka, designed by Rodney Wright, who also designed the Belle Mare Legend course!
If you take the Emirates flight option from airports in the UK, like Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Heathrow and Gatwick, you can buy a through fare, via Dubai to Mattala using Flydubai from the UAE. Alternatively, you can fly via Doha with Qatar Airways.
There are also direct flights to Colombo, from London Heathrow to Colombo, with Air Sri Lanka with a flying time of 10.5 hours. Connecting flights, or transfers can be arranged to the resort to the Shangri-La.
