GOLF RESORTS IN MALDIVES

Golf Holidays To The Maldives

The Maldives lie in the middle section of the Indian Ocean on a latitude with Indonesia and Kenya south west of Sri Lanka. The destination is a tropical nation, set over a unique and beautiful area of 26 ring shaped atolls where there are 1,000 coral islands, many of which now offer stunning resorts for the exclusive, adventurous and discerning clientele from all over the world. Island Golf Holidays are the first golf tour operator to feature the Maldives as a golf holiday venue with the recent opening of a breath taking 9-hole golf course called Villingili, next to the excellent and luxurious Shangri-La Villingili.

Traditionally the Maldives are all about blue lagoons, extensive reefs and amazing beaches, most travellers go to enjoy stunning weather and for complete relaxation, whilst others can enjoy fabulous diving where the reefs can be splendid. Now golfers can enjoy a stay in the Maldives for the first time.

In a world of its own, Villingil is the only Maldivian resort located south of the equator, making it very special in its position in the world. In the heart of extraordinary physical beauty that only nature can create, Villingili’s unique location allows visitors to experience an island unlike any other, with emerald green jungle, white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, together with a very well maintained and dramatic golf course. The Maldives is 5 hours ahead of the UK GMT

MORE INFO

One of the best ways of flying to the Maldives is with Emirates via Dubai, from most of the UKs largest airports, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester, Heathrow, Gatwick.

We recommend Emirates for two reasons, there are no direct flight options anyway and you can break up a 10-11 hour flight, into two more manageable sectors. Perhaps you can stop over for a couple of nights in Dubai to break up the journey. Please ask us for a recommendation on where to stay in Dubai!

Furthermore, Emirates economy and Business Class cabins are simply hard to beat. You will need to take care of the weight of your luggage, especially if you are taking golf clubs, we will explain how this works and the allowance at the time of booking. The flights from Dubai are into Male, from where you can connect on a domestic flight of 40 minutes to Praslin.

Alternatively, from November to March in the main season, British Airways offer flights direct from London Gatwick with an overnight flight out and a day flight back. There are 3 cabins available, economy, premium and business class.

Finally, another good routing from the UK or Ireland, is with Etihad from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin via Abu Dhabi. Again, we can recommend stopovers in Abu Dhabi.

On arrival in the capital of Male you will connect to the island in a small 50 seater plane to the Island of Gan and then a 5-10 minute boat ride to the jetty at the Shangri-La Villingili. The Maldives domestic flight is very much part of the holiday and the flight time is about 70 minutes, but is one of the worlds. Most beautiful flights as you fly over this special place in the middle of the Indian Ocean heading south from Male.

Note that there are flights from Gan also to Colombo in Sri Lanka, so this destination is a great two centre option combining two very fine Shangri-La Resorts, Villingili and Hambantota.

The weather in the Maldives is split into two main periods, with the high season being from November to March which is the heart of the dry season when temperatures can be comfortably over 30 degrees and the low season officially starts in the April period through until October but you would still not expect the climate to drop below 25 degrees at all. Basically, from April one may expect longer periods of rain but still lots of tropical sunshine, so in no way would one not consider staying at this period of the year, especially because the hotel prices are exceptional and much less expensive than the dry season period. All-in all the Maldives is indeed a tropical paradise close to the Equator the nights are always warm as well, making dining al fresco a joy all year round.

The currency in the Maldives is the Rufiyaa. However, realistically you will not need to bring that with you, just bring euros or US Dollars rather than UK pounds for tipping purposes.
