The Donnafugata Resort is in the south east of Sicily, in a very historic and privileged region of the island, close to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, which includes the lovely old towns of Ragusa, Modica and Scicli. Nearby to the resort, which lies 4 km from the ocean, is the wonderful old Medieval Palace of Donnafugata Castle – which is well worth a visit. The resort lies just 20 minutes from the small Comisa airport and just over 1 hour from Catania airport.
Donnafugata is a classic Italian Resort with lots of character, style and ambience. It has a wonderful entrance and courtyard, very prestigious architecture and lots of space, extensive gardens, pool areas, clubhouse and hotel buildings, all within one impressive estate.
The highlights of the hotel, are the two dramatic and contrasting types of golf course, the Parkland course designed by Gary Player and the Links, which is the polar opposite, but equally impressive. The bedrooms are refined and you can either choose ground floor rooms, with patio in sumptuous garden areas, or smaller balconies on the first level, which have lovely countryside and golf course views. The Spa at Donnafugata is good – it is not especially large, but is well designed and a great place to relax and unwind after a game.
The sun terraces and pool areas close to the clubhouse have wonderful vistas across the golf courses and beyond to mountains.
Directors Tip – book on bed & breakfast basis, dine a few nights in house, but explore some of the old towns in the evenings like Ragusa, where you will find some lovely restaurants. Ask with the guest relation’s team in the hotel lobby about local excursions, including to Mount Etna. Sicily is a lovely island to explore.
