Raffles

five-gold-stars

RAFFLES

Closed for 2 years for a major renovation programme, Raffles reopened in August 2019 with all its sumptuous bedrooms having been newly renovated, to make the hotel much more contemporary and brighter throughout.

This legendary and historic building has been open for 128 years since 1891 and is indeed world famous as the place to visit whilst in the Far East if you have plenty of money!

The hotel is now owned by the Accor chain and is located opposite the Fairmont Hotel, on Stamford Road and Beach Road (where the splendid entrance is located). The rooms at the hotel are generally split between two sections, the less expensive Courtyard Suites and the more peaceful exclusive Palm Tree Court Suites.

In total, there are 10 restaurants spread across this elegant resort, where the service levels excel in all aspects. The lobby and front entrance stun the senses, the most beautiful architecture and electric ambience, there is often a harp player performing in the lobby, where many people come to have afternoon tea as special treat. The hotel magically has maintained its ambience from 100 years ago, indeed the doorman looks like he could be working at the Taj Mahal.

The Long Bar at Raffles is an institution, the place to be seen in Singapore having a quiet relaxing drink in a lovely al fresco environment. The hotel has a first-class gymnasium, spa and an outdoor swimming pool. The lead in category suites are about 50 square metres with 4 poster beds. Offering a small living area, stand-alone copper bath tubs with walk in showers.

The Sentosa Golf Club and the Laguna National Golf Clubs are about 20 -30 minutes drive from Raffles, the cream of golf in the city of Singapore and on the exclusive Sentosa Island.

Singapore is the perfect placed to stop over for a few nights before heading on to

Bintan Island and or Langkawi Island in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Bintan is accessible by a passenger ferry in less than 1 hour from Singapore.

Fullerton Bay is the perfect complement to a staying at The Sanchaya on Bintan, or The Datai on Langkawi.

There are 10 restaurants across the entire resort, some of which are open for lunch, breakfast or dinner, there are 2 magnificent bars including the famous Long Bar. The Hotel has a lavish Spa and Gymnasium and an impressive outdoor pool with sun terraces and pool service.

The lead in category are situated parallel with Stamford Road and are the Courtyard Suites, beautifully appointed with stand-alone bath tub, walk in shower, at 70 square metres they are very spacious and have a small living area within the confines of the bedroom. The Palm Court Suites are a little more expensive and in a much quieter and more secluded location. There are also elegant State Room Suites and Studio Suites and then the very expensive luxury suites. The rooms are bright and contemporary with the very latest technology throughout your gadgets in each room.

The golf in Singapore is some of the very best in Asian Golf, there are a number of lesser known courses which we do not mention, but the two outstanding highlights are the two 36-hole private golf clubs.

      Sentosa Golf Club

The Sentosa Golf Club on Sentosa Island has the mouth-watering Serapong and Tanjong courses, both of which host major Men’s and Women’s Professional Tournaments including the HSBC.

Serapong is the longer course and the best of the best, absolutely immaculate condition and with some of the most impressive backdrops back to the main island of Singapore across Marina Bay and the Skyscrapers in the financial district. The course is a brilliant design and features plenty of water hazards and vast bunkering to break up the emerald green fairways, tees and greens. The Tanjong is a little shorter, but equally eye catching with awesome backdrops, a little less hilly perhaps and more aimed at the higher handicap or senior golfer because of its length. Playing golf here is very expensive and very exclusive, an absolute dream venue, accessed via a road bridge from the main Singapore Island.

      Laguna National Golf Club

Laguna National, as of Autumn 2019 is undergoing an exciting project, with its own luxury 5-star hotel being built in the midst of the courses, which is destined to open in late Spring mid-summer 2020. The courses here are superb, the Masters Course and the Classic Course combine very well. The Classic is more links style with less trees, lots of man-made mounding, tough raised links style greens with run off areas. The course is exciting and stadium style, with superb bunkering and lots of exhilarating water features, especially on the par 3s and indeed on some of the longer par 5 holes.

The Masters Course is probably an easier design, but an absolute beauty, terrific varied design it is always interesting and challenging, with many elevated tees and interesting terrain and dog legs, or holes over water. A sublime test of golf. By late 2020 we would expect the new Thusit Hotel to be open and the clubhouse to be open and it looks like it will be extremely plush and contemporary.
