GOLF RESORTS IN ABU DHABI

Golf Holidays To Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is one of the Emirates of the UAE and is located just 90 minutes west of the more celebrated and world renowned Dubai. The Government of Abu Dhabi is incredibly wealthy because of oil reserves and bailed out the Government of Dubai in 2007-8 during the massive financial crisis which hit the World in that era.. Abu Dhabi is now going through a diversification period, as oil reserves will ultimately run out and they too (like Dubai) and Qatar and will be trying hard to secure their future success by tourism of all types including of course golf holidays.

The coastline of Abu Dhabi is wonderful and nowhere is more scenic than Saadiyat and Yas Islands, which are located about 40 minutes from the capital. The wild beaches are a main feature and are protected to some extent and at certain times of the year as Turtles lay their eggs in the dunes between the ocean and the resorts like Park Hyatt and St Regis Hotels. The climate in Abu Dhabi is of course exceptional and every much as good as the climate in Dubai. We would highly recommend a golf holiday stay between December and May here and or combine a stay with the Seychelles, Mauritius, or the Maldives. You can also combine a golf holiday here with Dubai, perhaps a 10-night stay splitting the holiday 5 nights in each Emirate.

There are some strange rules and regulations in this part of the world, such as the sale of alcohol, which is expensive and limited to selling within hotels. Whilst restaurants are also mostly only within hotels – and the same applies for night club spots, all of which are hotel based. Hotel packages are mostly based on half board as you do not have the chance to dine out elsewhere. There are some amazing local places of culture to discover nowadays which are definitely worth a visit..the Louvre Museum is exceptional, the Ferrari World Theme Park is probably the best of its kind worldwide and you have some of the most exciting rides imaginable. The Grand Mosque is simply breath taking, no matter what your religious beliefs and in the city of Abu Dhabi there are some impressive shopping malls. There are currently 3 challenging and contrasting golf courses in the destination which are as good as any of the golf courses in Dubai. One attraction of Abu Dhabi, which is undergoing an explosion in construction like Dubai experience 15 years ago, is that the traffic is much quieter than Dubai!

The main two airlines operating direct to Abu Dhabi from the UK are British Airways and Etihad Airways. The flight time ranges from 7 to 8 hours.

Etihad fly direct from Manchester and London Heathrow – whilst British Airways fly from London Heathrow only. Etihad and BA offer Economy, Business Class, First Class and BA have the Premium Economy cabin also. Prices vary from circa £500 in Economy, from £800 in Premium Economy, from £1800 in Business Class and £4,000 in First Class. If you are flying from Scotland the Edinburgh Etihad flight has recently been rationalised, so flights from here would be best priced through Amsterdam, Schipol. Similarly, if you are based in Newcastle the best routing is via Amsterdam.

The best months for a golf holiday to Abu Dhabi for the perfect temperate climate and a guarantee of superb weather mid-twenties centigrade would be January – March, whilst December is very appealing also. November is so busy it is hard to get availability and for those who are looking for a less expensive deal try the shoulder and low seasons of April – mid-June and mid-September to the end of October, although October is also very popular with special sporting events etc.

The climate of Abu Dhabi is amazing. As we are a golf travel company we must take into account that the weather can be too hot at times for play. We would recommend against travelling to the region from mid-June to mid-September during which time it can reach and exceed 40 degrees and the prices at that time are less than half than the winter season.

The currency in the UAE Dirham. However, realistically you will not need to bring that with you, just bring US Dollars rather than UK pounds for tipping purposes and other local purchases and spend!

Drinks are expensive in this part of the world. There are circa 4.5 to 5 UAE Dirhams – £1.00 as an easy reference.
