The Castillo Son Vida is known by locals as the Balcony of Majorca, because of its unique location, high up on top of the Son Vida Estate which looks down over Palma, the Bay of Palma and the famous Palma Cathedral. Its privileged location is simply awesome and it is surrounded by sub-tropical gardens and below the picturesque and famous Son Vida Golf Course. The hotel has in 2021 following a substantial renovation in 2019 now become an adult only hotel.

The Castillo Son Vida is 20 minutes from Palma airport and just 10 minute’s down into the City by taxi, allowing residents to enjoy dining out in the City when they like, but staying in the most magnificent hotel in Majorca in such an exclusive location.

The main building is a 13th century palace and the entrance and main public areas including the lobby, staircases and George Sand Lounge are nothing short of majestic. There are amazing antiques, original ancient oil paintings and tapestries adorning the interior of the building. The terracing overlooking the Bay of Palma is special and can be enjoyed from the restaurants even at breakfast in the summer months, the views of the Cathedral and the City are memorable.

Enjoy the location with 3 x 18-hole golf courses on the Estate and there is a courtesy shuttle down to all 3 clubhouses, Son Vida, Son Quint & Son Muntaner.

Directors Tips – Speak to our team carefully about the rooms, to make sure you get the best for your requirements, the Grand Deluxe are the best in terms of location, with views of the Bay of Palma. Make sure you dine out in Palma at least twice during your stay, there are so many superb restaurants & just 10 minutes by taxi.

Es Castel Spanish restaurant with stunning views from inside, or on the terrace of the Bay of Palma, Es VI restaurant Tapas venue, with inside and outside options, again with stunning vistas, Bar Armas – an atmospheric venue for a drink prior to dinner, Pool Bar SA Font, George Sand Lounge, 4 tennis courts, 2 Outdoor Pools, Indoor Pool & Leisure centre, closed November to June – see below, Sub Tropical gardens below surrounding the hotel, 3 x 18 hole golf courses with 3 clubhouses. Spectacular entrance and drive way.

From November to June 2017-18 the hotel will be creating a brand new impressive health club at the Castillo Son Vida. During this period of inconvenience, residents will have free shuttle and free access to the Shine spa at the sister hotel 3 minute’s away, at the Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Hotel. The Spa here is quite small, but has very refined amenities and complimentary access to the wet areas for all clients. Enjoy the indoor pool, the steam bath, Sauna and the Whirlpool. From July onwards, the Castillo will launch a revamped and rebuilt health centre, which will probably be the best in Majorca!

The rooms at the Castillo Son Vida are sensational, so well-appointed and with  a touch of real class. The Classic Window rooms are about 36 square metres with garden view, but have no balcony, if you upgrade to Classic Terrace you have balconies with garden views, the Deluxe and Grand Deluxe are larger at 42 square metres and the latter have the best view imaginable of Palma, the Cathedral and the Bay. There are also a few suite options.

All rooms have Safe, Hair-dryer, Bathrobe, I-pod player, double sinks, separate shower and bath tub, Mini-Bar, Free WI-FI, Flat screen TV, Coffee & Tea making facilities, Special Starwood mattresses for the ultimate comfort. All room have balcony, except Classic Window.

There are 3 very different golf courses on the Son Vida complex, all equally enjoyable and setting different challenges. The Son Vida course is the hilliest layout, wraps its way around the Castillo Hotel on dramatic hillsides, with very tight landing areas for your drives, it is not particularly long, but extremely tight and on the highest land. The views from the course are special all the way round. The greens are small, because it is an old well established golf course.

The Son Muntaner is the Championship course, it is the ultimate test and many think that it is the island’s finest design. The course winds its way through mature woodland with hills and valleys, with many elevated tees and dog legs. The greens are large and play very fast and if you miss the raised greens it makes play very tricky indeed. All three golf courses have their own clubhouses and a courtesy shuttle will take you to all the courses from the hotel lobby.
The Son Quint course is set over flatter land and has more space than Son Vida, people think this is the easiest golf course here, but it is still a lovely parkland course with plenty of trees and great shot making and scenery throughout.

The hotel is excellent and the weather perfect. View from balcony is beautiful. Played Son Muntaner today and looking forward to Son Quint tomorrow. I’m just back from a walk to Son Vida and had a peek at a few holes which although quirky will be fun to play on Saturday. Flight was only 2hr 25 and transfer in limo extremely comfortable. I even managed a 4pt lead over Christine today.

The hotel was wonderful and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Golf was great on all 3 courses; the greens on Son Muntaner were a bit ropey but you did warn us that there was maintenance work in the preceding weeks so it wasn’t a surprise. Still a great course.

Son Quint always seems to feature as the lesser of the 3 courses at the Son Vida complex but I found it to be in excellent condition and a pleasure to play.

All 3 courses have very much their own character, which is great, and all were a joy to play. The great benefit of going at the end of June AND during COVID was that the courses really were not busy. Millionaires golf at its best 😊

Our favourite course was undoubtedly Son Vida itself. Loved the golf holes (except the 10th which is a bit silly), loved the views & loved the condition of the course. The kikuyu grass around some of the greens presents a very different challenge to anything on the other two courses.

Travel to/from was pain free, on time and somewhat less stressful than normal “non-COVID” times: fewer people in the airport, no need for stacking prior to landing etc.

Prior to our return travel, the hotel’s PCR test facilities were great and very conveniently located & we received our results by email very promptly.

The only disappointment was having to come home & not staying for 2 weeks 😊
