MAURITIUS

ANAHITA GOLF & SPA RESORT

five-gold-stars

RESORT OVERVIEW

Anahita Golf & Spa Resort is located in a privileged spot on the east coast of Mauritius, set beside a beautiful natural lagoon facing the ocean and facing north east away from the south easterly trade winds, it is well sheltered. The resort is more than a hotel resort venue, it is a community, as there are many privately owned villas on the resort and people live here year-round. Anahita is in fact the most exclusive domain in Mauritius. The resort is circa 1 hours’ drive from Mauritius airport and 20 minutes south of Belle Mare Plage.

The resort is exceptional and the main attractions are the size of the accommodation units on the resort, they are bigger than most of the resorts we sell in Mauritius, plus the fact that as a resident you can play both Ile Aux Cerfs and Anahita Golf Courses, free of charge during your stay. The clubhouse and practice grounds of the Els designed course is just opposite the main reception area of  Anahita Golf & Spa Resort, whilst for Ile aux Cerfs, there is a courtesy boat shuttle from the harbour at Anahita, which will take you to the jetty, near the golf course on the island.

The resort now offers so much more now with the deluxe villas which all are located on the Els designed course, with one bedroom junior suites and one, two & three bedroom units, which have lovely terraces and sizeable plunge pools much bigger than the prestige suites. The Signature fine dining restaurant opens weekends only and on the other 5 nights you can choose between Origine, Bliss and Il Forno, 3 lovely and varied options. There is always a buffet option at Origine and one can dine inside or waterside al fresco.
Furthermore, the resort is greatly enhanced with the impressive and extensive Spa by Themae Paris, which is getting amazing reviews and their treatments area all inspired by the world of Tea! There are 9 spa cabins and 1 double spa cabin.

There is a beach club adjacent to the golf course and restaurant facilities, but an even better beach awaits on the island of Ile Auf Cerfs and a courtesy boat shuttle will take you from the jetty! This really is paradise found! An exclusive private beach club in a very sheltered golden sandy bay.

Directors Tips –  Take a day out to Ile aux Cerfs with a round of golf, followed by lunch and an afternoon sun bathing at the superb Beach Club.

The Spa by Themae Paris opened in early 2017 with 9 treatment rooms, contemporary styling and spread over 800 square metres. There is a relaxation area, a steam room and a manicure & pedicure room.  The early feedback on this new amenity is very positive, some fabulous treatments on offer with different influences. Some involving tea based treatments.

There are several new room options available in 2017 after the construction of some new units on the resort. The lead in room category is the one bedroom junior suites, with garden view, which are new and contemporary and are still spacious, at 60 square metres. If you would prefer more space including a lounge area and infinity plunge pool on the outside terrace with a great view, you will need to upgrade to either a one bedroom prestige suite with golf, or even better ocean view. These rooms are 160 square metres and are more than double the size of a junior suite. They cost about £50pp per night more!

There are also 2 and 3-bedroom prestige suites and we also have access to the brand new deluxe villas, which are located alongside hole nine of the Els course, all of which have private pools, these are superb and ideal for 2 couples, or families of 6, 2 doubles and a twin room, you have lovely al fresco decking and decent size pools, plus nice spacious lounges and kitchens. The prestige villas are stunning, but older styling and suitable for large families especially.

Some of the new junior suites offer golf course, as well as garden view. These new room categories offer the following amenities.

Kitchenette, bathroom with double vanity sinks, walk-in shower, bath tub, Lounge with sofa and chairs, sun terrace overlooking the garden or golf course, free WI-FI, Coffee machine, TV with LCD screen, Mini-bar & safe.

Residents of Anahita can enjoy free golf on both Ile Aux Cerfs by Bernhard Langer and the Anahita Golf by Ernie Els. Two completely different designs and both courses blend well together for the ultimate golfing experience, which is unrivalled on Mauritius.

The Ile aux Cerfs course is laid out over mostly flat terrain on this small island venue, most holes are flanked by indigenous trees, vegetation and mangrove swamps, the fairways are tight and the course is testing as the greens are fairly small. The front nine does not give players many ocean views, as trees tend to block a view of the sea, but when you hit the 11th fairway through to the 16th there are some superb Oceanside holes none better than 11, 12 and 13. But the opening tee shots on 1 and 18 are simply sensational with carries over ravines. You need to be a very good driver and have a very good short game to play to your handicap on Ile aux Cerfs.

The course underwent some major improvements in 2015 to make the course more playable and a touch less challenging, as it was at one time very difficult to score here, the feedback since has been so much better.

Anahita guests receive free daily golf but buggy hire is not included and is paid locally only.

The Els designed golf course at Anahita is much longer than its neighbour, there are many long par fours, testing par fives and some sweet par threes. The fairways by contrast, are much wider than Ile aux Cerfs – you can really attack every drive, but the challenge comes with the approach shots, lots of raised links style greens and big bunkers await with big run off areas, swales and valleys. Watch out for hole 5 Ocean Drive, which is a superb par 5 heading straight to the ocean, with fantastic ocean back drops down the hole, the exquisite par 3 6th and the superb long par 3 8th which requires a long iron or wood. This is the prettiest hole, the back nine changes style and vegetation especially holes 10-12 which are played through palm groves, the climax of the course comes at 17 and 18 two superb ocean side holes which require a strong nerve.

Everything good here at Anahita. We have been very impressed with the resort. Great apartment, excellent friendly service, golf fine but find Ile aux Cerfs a bit too tough in terms of lost golf balls. Thank god the gardeners are selling bags at sensible prices!

We’ll take up your tip on the beach.

We wondered whether a good package could be to stay here but also play the Legend and The Links at Belle Mare which we hear is good.

Currently weather ideal. Hope it is when you visit.

      All the best

Very impressed with the whole holiday.

Air Mauritius more than adequate. We found it easily on a par with BA, our only minor gripe was a very poor selection of films.

The resort - service is excellent. How the staff remember your names is beyond me but they do. The friendly staff is a major plus point.

Food good, not a great fan of buffet food but they do it well. The Italian is good but could do with a slightly larger menu. Wine is expensive but what they offered was excellent quality even at the cheaper end.

Golf - Caddie Master’s excellent on both courses. We liked both courses and Isle de Cerfs grow on us after a couple of games once we learn’t to tip toe round this tight course.

In summary - Two very satisfied customers.

       by Stuart

Origin - very good, good variety, also sumptuous breakfasts. Langoustines and prawns were superb.
Bliss- the starters were a bit sparse and ‘nouveau’ but otherwise a nice change.
Il Forno - very nice, relaxing, but a limited menu. We went 3 times but had eaten our best choices after 2. Nice for a beer there after morning golf but I think the beer prices fluctuated!

      Seafood was super throughout.
We happened to be shown round some 3 bed villas but our room was exactly right.

Was invited for cocktails by Mr Soon!

Golf- the Els was more forgiving off the tee but the pins were very hard to get at.
The Langer course was much tighter off the tee but I enjoyed the variety and the shorter holes. There’s an easy birdie waiting for you on the 9th. Didn’t need to buy any balls this year.
Both in great nick and courses highly recommended.

We played an eclectic card at each course which worked out well.

Some friends arrived after a few days and they stopped their driver on the way in, to stock up on gin and tonics or Prosecco at the mall. Wish we had done that and you might add that to the itinerary.

      Hi David,
Sorry I am very naughty when on holiday, I don’t read my e-mails!
      Arrived home this afternoon !

Had a fabulous fortnight.   The golf was great, we played most days &
the Ile aux Cerfs course was amazing.  We paid for our buggy there but didn’t
have to pay for the buggy at Anahita.(gathered it had altered just in New Year)

Hotel was great, good food!  EXPENSIVE drinks though!
Hardly any British , manly Europeans & Arab families
We were lucky with the weather , 3 days rain
but that’s out of any ones control!

Flights were fine, coped in Dubai, Good experience!

      Thank you for organising everything
      Regards
      Denise

Thanks Denise and hope that you loved your first visit to Mauritius

      Dear David,

We arrived home yesterday evening after a long but fortunately hassle free journey back from Tokyo. The flight was smooth and on time and all our luggage appeared very quickly.

Thank you very much for organising the flights and for the Singapore and Tokyo ends of the trip. The organisation and choice of hotels were faultless. Taxi’s were there on time to pick us up,  spotless and with ample room for all our luggage. Both hotels instantly recognised our booking and checked us in. The rooms at both hotels were exceptionally good. Both the tours organised for us were ideal with interesting guides who spoke good English. Apart from the air conditioning not working on the first night sailing from Singapore, for which we got compensated, the cruise was also good. We played four very different golf courses, the best being Clearwater Bay in Hong Kong and the most interesting being Naruo Golf Club in Osaka where we had a remote controlled four seater buggy with a delightful female caddy. We had to wear jackets upon arrival and departure, together with long trousers on the course.

Thank you once again for all the time and effort you put into making it an outstanding holiday for all of us. It would not have been anywhere near as good without your contribution.

      With best wishes,

      Steve and Jenny

Thank you for the feedback Steve and i wish you all the best, it was exciting doing an itinerary to 2 new venues for me personally Japan and Singapore!

We all loved the resort and we even got a complimentary late check out on our last day which was another unexpected bonus! We didn't get around to looking at one of the one bed suites but as far as I can tell from the floorplan sketches they would have been absolutely fine for us as we were rolling around in our upgraded space! The only comment I would make about the accommodation is that many of these suites (ours included) do not really get much direct sun onto their balconies and plunge pools. Not a problem for us as we were generally out on the course or around the central pools but perhaps one to keep in mind so that it doesn't come as a surprise to future guests. We tried out all the restaurants including Signature but we didn't use the in suite dining option. Signature is certainly expensive (especially so relative to half board!) but we all thought it was very good indeed, both in terms of food and service. We spent most of our evenings in Bliss either with their a la carte or taking our food through from the Origin buffet (or occasionally mixing and matching). There were a couple of nights when Bliss was privately booked but generally we had no difficulty getting a nice table there. We were slightly surprised the restaurants weren't busier but perhaps the resort wasn't full? We also thought Vue bar was great both for our after dinner relaxation with music and also our post golf drinks (once we had figured out it was better than the 19th hole!). Il Forno was ok for us although probably good for families needing pasta and pizza. Apart from the menu being less appealing to us we also found the breeze was better at Bliss/Vue bar and interestingly the beer was also cheaper and the drinks came with an elaborate collection of nibbles rather than just a few peanuts! When we had post round drinks with playing partners from other hotels we still used Il Forno as it is perfectly fine but for us it was just not as special as Bliss/Vue. Given we were very close to the central facilities we didn't make much use of the buggy transfers but when we did call them they turned up promptly so we would imagine the service would be fine for the more distant villas.

Summertimes were good for our transfers. On our arrival the initial vehicle they proposed looked a little small but they soon found us a Merc people carrier which made the journey somewhat easier.

The Anahita golf course was lovely. The proshop and caddy areas were all friendly and efficient although some of the pro shop prices were rather eye watering! I know we were pretty relaxed about booking up but I would definitely recommend doing this so at the very least there is an existing tee time to negotiate with! The practice facilities were excellent but it seemed the free daily tuition was only available/appropriate for complete beginners. We were generally paired up in four balls and it was certainly a fourball course as we saw virtually no playing through. That said our rounds were generally 4 hours +/- which is hardly a hardship in beautiful weather and surroundings. There were marshalls out on the course keeping an eye on things and checking we weren't overly bothered about the pace of play on the couple of occasions when we did end up playing as a 2 ball.

In overall terms we thought the staff at Anahita were great.

I would rate the hotel and facilities as excellent. The apartments were well equipped and generous in size, albeit we were upgraded to a two bedroom. Golf course and supporting facilities, eg carts, pro shop etc were all of a high standard and suitable for all levels of players Evening Entertainment was very good as was the food from Bliss and Origine. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. All in all a very good holiday in the making only spoilt by me becoming ill, but I cannot blame that on the resort. Many thanks for making the arrangements we do plan to go back at some point so we will be in touch.
