RESORT OVERVIEW
Half Moon is located on the north-west coast of Jamaica close to Montego Bay, the resort is in fact only 20 minutes’ drive from the International airport. The resort is the largest of its type in the Caribbean, spread out over 400 acres,as the rooms and restaurants are all close to the ocean down 1 long stretch of beach and coastline circa 4 km long. A spectacular piece of real estate!
If you are flying with British Airways to Kingston – Jamaica’s capital, it is a 140-minute transfer through the centre of the island and along the coast from east to west!
The resort has its own special 18-hole championship course at Half Moon, just across from the hotel, plus there are 3 other top golf courses in the region, namely White Witch, Cinnamon Hill and the Tryall Club.
The highlights of the hotel are many and varied, but we must point out the West Cottage area, where the rooms are right on the best beach for swimming. Deluxe and junior suites here are just idyllic! The newly refurbished lobby, which leads into the Lester’s Café and Cedar Bar are atmospheric. The sunsets from the Cedar Bar are memorable every night!
The Sugar Mill restaurant opposite the golf clubhouse is arguably the premium dining venue across Jamaica, plantation style colonial styling and eating inside or al fresco. The Il Giardino restaurant is a wonderful Italian just off Sunset Beach at West Cottages, superb cuisine, service and ambience. Whilst the breakfast area at Seagrape Terrace has wonderful views across the Ocean and amongst Seagrape Trees creating shade, is unbeatable for location.
The Hibiscus Junior Suites, which run right down the beach front close to the Ocean are beautifully appointed, luxurious and spacious – also they are very close to the main dining venues and Cedar Bar so convenient.
The golf course at Half Moon with its 19th hole bar and clubhouse is exceptional – here you can hire buggies or caddies and there is a real old charm of what is a classic parkland course, through large palm trees. Notably caddies are mandatory and buggies are optional at Half Moon – the real caddy experience and walking the course like professionals is unsurpassed.
Special mention of the excellent Fern Tree Spa, which has superb amenities and dynamic massages and the first-class tennis centre and gymnasium.
It is noteworthy that beyond the Fern Tree Spa and the Imperial Suite section of the resort Half Moon are constructing some new rooms and a new beach area, this is a long way from the main part of the resort and will not affect one’s holiday, the Pepperpot restaurant is closed as is the Dolphin lagoon. By November 2018 the resort will have a new main building and new bars and restaurants in a different area to the current lobby and Seagrape Terrace area.
Director’s Tip – book the junior suites with ocean view at West Cottages on Sunset Beach, or the Hibiscus Junior Suites leading up from the lobby to the Royal Court and play Cinnamon Hill and White Witch once each during your stay. Take the Premium all inclusive plan.
