SALOBRE GOLF RESORT

five-gold-stars

RESORT OVERVIEW

The Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity is in the mountains just above and to the west of the seaside resort of Maspalomas. It is an iconic hotel for golfers and those customers wishing to escape from it all, amidst wild and exhilarating nature, as the hotel offers panoramic vistas in all directions from its high location. The hotel itself is built into a rock face, giving it a unique feel, rather similar to somewhere like Scottsdale Arizona. The resort is 50 minute’s transfer time from Las Palmas airport and one can take advantage of a shuttle transfer service down to the seaside resort of Maspalomas.

The Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity is surrounded by two exciting golf courses, the old Salobre course, which is basically a canyon style course, albeit extremely playable and the dramatic mountain canyon course, Salobre New, which is exciting with every twist and turn, but incredibly hilly and challenging.

Other highlights of the hotel are the sun bathing terraced areas, the sumptuous wellness centre and hydrotherapy outdoor pool, the chill out areas and bar terracing, which have such superb views. This really is the ultimate chill out mountain golf venue, but with such easy access to the beach and Maspalomas, if you want a change of scenery, literally.

Golfers can enjoy the two resort courses, or combine them with 3 other local golf courses, all within 20-25 minute’s drive, notably Maspalomas, Anfi Tauro and Los Meloneras. Transfers can be pre-arranged, or just book a taxi in resort. Car hire can be organised at the airport, instead of private transfers, for about £60pp supplement. Stay in the hotter summer months from July and August 2019 and golf is often free every day. Ask for more details.

Director’s Tip – Use a buggy if you are playing the New Course at Salobre and consider playing once off resort at the spectacular Anfi Tauro course, arguably the best in the Canaries.

There are 313 rooms and suites, a very impressive Aloe Wellness Center, 36 holes of golf, golf academy, kid’s club, gymnasium, 7 outdoor pools on different levels, restaurants, pool bar and cocktail lounge with different food concepts and chill out areas.

The Wellness Centre has a very varied menu of treatments both for massage, beauty treatment and a wide array of exotic and classic massage. Why not enjoy special golfers massage packages, as a couple, or an individual, or enjoy massages from Hawaii, Thailand, Japan and the Canaries. The hydrotherapy pool offers a jet circuit in a heated outside pool, with amazing views down to the ocean and sunset. The use of which is 25 euros per 2-hour session. There are also hot stone massages. TheWellness Centre has excellent Finnish Sauna and Steam bath amenities to chill out and refresh your body.

We base our golf packages on the standard deluxe bedrooms, which can have good views, although golfers often get upgraded to golf view rooms, if you want that guarantee we highly recommend paying a little more – circa £19 per person per night for that location.  The junior suites are lovely and have also great golf and mountain views, whilst the mountain view suite is spectacular.

The rooms all come with a private terrace or balcony, plasma TV, king size beds with 100% cotton bedding and hypoallergenic feather pillows and a shower or bath. The standard deluxe rooms are 42 square metres – we would recommend upgrading to junior suite and you get 84 square metres and a separate living room area, plus a separate rain shower and oval bath tub. All rooms are contemporary and chic.

The Salobre Old course is the most sought after course on the estate, but the New course is even more dramatic and exhilarating, every shot is a potential lost ball, playing over canyons and barrancas (old lava channels). The shot making is stunning, so exciting to play. Occasionally you may face a shot, which looks impossible. If you enjoy driving, the tee shots are so exciting, as you are generally playing off elevated tees.

The Old Course is relatively easy compared to the New, although it is a longer design, still with plenty of drives from elevated tees, it is still very challenging and there are some cracking holes through canyons, or up and along ridges or plunging into valleys. The Old Course is easier to maintain and the conditions are generally better year-round. The views and vistas from the New course are probably the best in the Canaries. Make sure you hire a buggy playing the New course.

You could play a variety of golf courses instead of the unlimited package, taking in Anfi Tauro, Maspalomas and Los Meloneras, but you will need a car or private transfers to play them, as they are circa 25 minutes’ drive away.

We had a great time…the hotel was excellent; the food was exceptional for buffet-style …so much choice and great quality (including lobsters on New year’s eve)

Our rooms were on the 3rd floor – but we had a lovely view of the sun rising over the course each day, and it was position A for the New years Eve fireworks which was spectacular. They certainly did put on a display!

The Staff were all very helpful / cheerful ( not always the case in Spain 😊) …and the golf at Salobre was superb. Interesting course with many challenges and in great condition too.

Can’t fault anything…..other than 2 hours of rain one afternoon…!

All the pre-arranged private transfers were ready in good time, and everything went like clockwork…..stress free

..and finally thank you for arranging everything for us….excellent seats on the flights too!

And finally - we really enjoyed being back at Anfi Tauro…such a lovely place to play golf. Didn’t like Meloneras so much…very very very busy. Lots of golfers playing who weren’t really golfers and apart from a few nice holes alongside the coast we felt it was a bit “samey”.

      Hi David,

We had a lovely holiday, everything was great apart from the very start with the problem at the airport,

The whole hotel complex was more than acceptable, although not as good as those in Turkey. The golf courses

were very interesting and a great challenge, we ended up playing the new course on the last day because of  some ones recommendation.

How anyone could design  a golf course in that terrain is unbelievable. There were some very interesting holes.

      Flights were ok both ways

      Regards.

      Quentin.

Thanks Quentin, the Salobre Hotel is never on a par with Belek but may be has more charm and a more exciting outlook

      Hi David

We had an excellent holiday even better than two years ago. I was not in the best of health but I got round ok and buggies on the new course were free

Amfi Tauro was a bit sad in that they cram too many people on the course. The round took over 5 hours not acceptable for a not very long course. This is a small complaint.

Thanks for your help. It’s much appreciated of course. For next year perhaps year could be Maspalomas again or maybe Lanzarote somewhere. I like the Salobre  as a base and perhaps another course as well as the two at that hotel. He fancies Madeira but the temperature and weather is a lot more iffy.

Thanks for your help another fine trip

      John Leach

Glad that you enjoyed Salobre this time and the great golf down in Maspalomas region John
